Karino bridge finally open for use

No more delays as bridge maintenance is finished.

MBOMBELA – After a few weeks of traffic delays on the Karino Bridge that links Kamagugu road (D2296) with the N4 Toll road, the road is finally opened for motorists.

The few past weeks was hell as there were traffic delays during peak hours in the mornings and afternoons. “Road users have been waiting for this day for long since the bridge closed on July 5. We are now happy that the road is open and life will be back to normal,”says a taxi driver.

Bus and taxi commuters from Matsulu and Kanyamazane says they are now relieved and they will no longer be delayed at work as it was the case in the past few weeks.

Spokesperson for the department of Public Works Roads and Transport, Mr David Nkambule said the road was closed due to the inspection and maintenance of the bridge which is part of the Bridge Management System (Brims). He further explained that they were replacing the rubber (extractor) joints to avoid cracks.
“This is an annual inspection which cost over R3 million for the maintenance.” he added.
