Roots Butchery caught fire from burning boxes

Security guards who were on the scene at the time of incidence tried to douse the flames by pouring water over it but the flames were uncontrollable

TONGA – Roots Butchery was seriously damaged after cardboard boxes caught aflame last night in Tonga Mall.

According to Capt Mzwandile Nyambi, spokesperson for the local police, the fire apparently started from a pile of rubbish at a secured area a few metres behind the shop.

He added that security guards who were on the scene at the time of incidence tried to douse the flames by pouring water over it but the flames were uncontrollable.

Fire-fighters from Malalane and Mbombela were called to the scene but the fire had already spread to the building.

“A vehicle parked at the yard was burnt and Roots Butchery was partially burnt,” he said. “Investigations on the cause of the fire still continue. We had opened an inquiry,” he adds.
