DA calls upon IEC to make sure that elections run smoothly

Mabuza alluded that farm owners are taking ID books from the people so that they cannot vote.

MBOMBELA – The DA in the province has called upon the IEC to make sure that the forthcoming local government elections will be free and fair without political intimidation or shoddy electioneering tactics.

Speaking during the sitting at the legislature, the chief whip of the party, Mr Bosman Globler said: “We are urging the IEC to be as committed to the enforcement of the code of conduct as we are committed to abiding by it.

Our experience of past elections and recent events has shown us that the ANC in particular shows no hesitation to resort to intimidatory tactics and the misuse of state resources to disrupt and upstage the campaign of others.”

Meanwhile, premier David Mabuza during the oral reply questions raised a serious concern regarding farm workers and dwellers who are not allowed to exercise their rights of casting a vote during the elections periods.

Mabuza alluded that farm owners are taking ID books from the people so that they cannot vote.
