Police disputes claims of driver fleeing from accident scene

MBOMBELA – The local police have reported that the driver of the taxi involved in an accident near KaMagugu over the weekend reported the accident to the police.
Police spokesperson, Capt Dawie Pretorius today said that the driver of the taxi didn’t flee from the scene as it was previously reported.
“The driver didn’t run away, he went to report the accident to the owner of the taxi. As we speak, the investigating officer is busy taking a statement from the driver,” said Pretorius.
He said the accident was caused by a bursting tyre. He added that police were investigating a case of a culpable homicide.
On Sunday when the accident happened, paramedics who attended to the scene found two passengers dead on the scene and other 12 injured and were rushed to Rob Ferreira Hospital, where they are said to be recovering.
