Two protesters injured by police’s rubber bullets

Schools, shops and movement is still on standstill as nothing moves in and out of Nyongane and surroundings, a thing which the residents say will continue doing until they are being properly addressed.

YONGANE – Chaos erupted in this area as protesters threatened to close the main road to Mkhuhlu in their fight against the ANC’s councillors nomination processes and nepotism in a water project taking place at the area.

On Tuesday two protesters were seriously injured when rubber bullets were allegedly shot at them by police’s Public Order Unit (POP) in an attempt to prevent the marchers from closing the main road to Mkhuhlu and the Kruger National Park.

“Two were injured when the police fired bullets at the crowd. Some of them went for hiding in the nearby bushes while some were forced to remove the stones they already placed in the road,” said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation.

Today, (Wednesday) marks the third day since the beginning of the strike on Monday.
