Residents close roads over nominations of councillors

The strikers blocked roads with burning tyres, broken bottles, stones and debris from as early 03:00 this morning.

NYONGANE – Schools were closed and nothing moved in and out of Nyongane and surroundings this morning as angry residents took to the streets to voice their anger against the nomination of councillors and nepotism.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said strikers blocked roads with burning tyres, broken bottles, stones and debris from as early 03:00 this morning.

“Nothing moves in and out. People are angry against the nominations of councillors in the area,” he asked.

He alleged that the nominated councillor is from another place. “They need a local person who will properly represent their service delivery issues,” he continued.

Hazyview police responded promptly to monitor the situation.“We came to monitor the situation and to ensure that the marchers don’t proceed to the main roads to Mkhuhlu and the Kruger National Park,” said Const Mathibela.
