Community members picket outside the legislature

"We normally take to the streets because of unemployment, surprisingly, KaNyamazane has always been a home for comrades. We also have a problem with tender processes. We have to be contractors all the time, this has to come to an end,".

MBOMBELA – The community of KaNyamazane is up in arms at the Legislature to demand jobs.Amongst other things, the community says they want jobs, especially from the University of Mpumalanga, and they want to be represented at the Legislature.
“We are tired of unemployment and we also want some MECs to hail from KaNyamazane. We don’t even have HODs on that level. We won’t burn tyres, we want to do things the right way.

Should this not work, be warned that we will have no choice but to take to the streets,” said one of the organisers of the march.
The community were received by Community Safety and Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe, who was given until Monday to respond to their cries.
“We normally take to the streets because of unemployment, surprisingly, KaNyamazane has always been a home for comrades. We also have a problem with tender processes. We have to be contractors all the time, this has to come to an end,” added the organisers.
ANC Chiefwhip, Mr Johan Mkhatshwa, who was also part of the officials to receive the grievances, commended the community for not damaging properties, but resorting for a peaceful communication instead.
“We will look into the matter, and we will definitely come up with a solution, after consultation,” said Mkhatshwa.

Shongwe asked the community to be patient while they will calm all affected stakeholders to answer for themselves.
“It makes sense for us to sit down with the relevant stakeholders so they can answer for themselves. We will agree on the date and venue so we can have all of these concerns addressed “said Shongwe.
