KANYAMAZANE – Finally the illegal immigrant’s body that has been lying in a state mortuary for a month, will be laid to rest.
Mpumalanga News learnt that on Tuesday morning the office of the Mozambique Commission for Refuge based in Pretoria contacted the local police station about this matter.
Speaking to this publication, the spokesperson of the police W/O Andries Skwambane said the commission has intervened to assist in tracing family members of the deceased in Maputo.
If their efforts don’t yield positive results, then they will take the responsibility to bury the deceased.
For a month the local police have been battling to trace the deceased’ relatives, hence the difficulty to find his loved ones who are alleged to be in the country illegally.
The deceased, who was an elderly person, was struck by a truck early last month when he was crossing the road.
It is believed that he did not check properly for oncoming traffic and the driver did not see him as he was wearing dark-coloured clothes.
While he was still lying on the ground, a bus drove over him.
