EMALAHLENI – 70 Vehicles ranging from Sedans to articulated trucks and a private ambulance on the N12, between Ogies and Witbank, were involved in multiple crashes due to pileup that was caused by mist this morning.
According to the Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, at least nine scenes were observed in a stretch of 10km.
There were no fatalities however, five people were seriously injured and twelve slightly injured. The mist was severe from 07h30 and the road was closed since then to around 09h30.
Thedepartment has called on motorists to be more cautious and patient especially when driving in misty areas to avoid crashes.
