Don’t miss out on the Sappi-Lowvelder Mother’s Day Concert

The little ones can be entertained at the free kiddies entertainment section, where there will be jumping castles, airbrush tattoos, giant snakes and ladders as well as a MasterChef corner with cupcake decorating.

The Sappi-Lowvelder Mother’s Day Concert on May 8 at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden is the perfect way to treat your mother or your child in style.

Be there at 12:12 to witness the 65-member University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra and Wind Band in action. The concert, which will conclude at 15:00, will be in the form of a choreographed and coordinated programme of popular light classical pieces as well as many classical hits.

Currently, both the University of Pretoria Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) and Symphonic Winds (UPSW) form entities of the department of UP Arts and present a platform of cultural expression and identity at the University of Pretoria.

UPSO has been in existence since the inception of the department of music in 1961 at the University of Pretoria. Both ensembles showcase the profoundly complex past and present of South Africa as well as a repertoire that encapsulates all facets of music, including Western art music and world music.

The orchestra and wind band, as academic institution, provides a platform for the University of Pretoria’s finest soloists, instrumentalists, singers, students and professionals.
The orchestra and wind band also regularly participate in outreach programmes in and around Pretoria by raising funds, food and item collection, raising awareness on social issues and lending their services and music educators and practitioners to nursery schools, primary schools, high schools and other non-profit organisations.

Tickets for this spectacular event cost only R65. Primary school learners and pensioners will pay only R30 and preschoolers will be allowed entry free of charge.
There will be fun and activities for the entire family, which include free wine tasting for women. The little ones can be entertained at the free kiddies entertainment section, where there will be jumping castles, airbrush tattoos, giant snakes and ladders as well as a MasterChef corner with cupcake decorating.
