Thousands to get affordable health services

Doctors and specialists on the train will provide screening of cancer and diabetics, health clinic services, optical eye services, dental services, pharmacy for minor ailments and counseling services.

MBOMBELA – The Phelophepa Health Train will once again make a stop in Mbombela Municipality.

According to Mr Nelson Lubisi, a representative from the health train, it will resume with its duties from April 18 until April 22 and again on April 25 until April 29.

He said doctors and specialists on the train will provide screening of cancer and diabetics, health clinic services, optical eye services, dental services, pharmacy for minor ailments and counseling services.

Patients will pay as little as R30 for reading glass, R10 for dental clinic and R5 eye drops and all children’s procedures.\

This eighteen coach train, with its nineteen resident staff members, is fondly known as the “miracle train” and carries the most modern medical equipment on board.

The Phelophepa Health Train is the world’s first primary healthcare hospital on wheels. It uses the existing rail network to make quality medical care an accessible reality for many of South Africa’s most remote communities.

The name ‘Phelophepa’ combines elements of Sotho and Tswana and roughly translated to means ‘good, clean health’ – which is exactly what this traveling health clinic provides
