Last call for all votes to register for elections

The IEC said all 1 728 voting stations in the province are ready for the registration processes over the weekend. They will be open from 08:00 to 17:00 and IEC commissioner, Mr Glen Mashinini is expected to visit the Edwaleni voting station tomorrow.

MBOMBELA – This weekend marks the last opportunity for voters to register and South Africans are urged to visit their voting centres to verify their particulars.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says all 1 728 voting stations in the province are ready for the registration processes over the weekend. They will be open from 08:00 to 17:00 and IEC commissioner, Mr Glen Mashinini is expected to visit the Edwaleni voting station this Sunday.

Mr Sibusiso Nkosi, IEC communications officer emphasised that first-time voters are expected to line up this weekend to register, while those who had relocated to new addresses are expected to re-register and verify their addresses in order to be able to cast their vote in the coming municipal elections.

“It is important that everyone visit their voting stations to check whether their names appear on the voter’s roll. This is the last registration weekend, if you lose this chance, you won’t be able to vote,” he stated.

During the previous registration weekend held between March 5 and 6, the province recorded 46 493 new registrations of which 38 364 were youths aged between 16 and 29. Mbombela Local Municipality recorded 7 605 new registrations followed by Bushbuckridge with 6 083, Emalahleni third with 5 176 while Nkomazi only recorded 5 048. Dipaleseng Local Municipality recorded the lowest number of only 442 new registrations.
