EFF leader caught in hotel debacle

He allegedly had an unauthorised guest who demanded food on the provincial legislature's account.

MBOMBELA – The EFF’s provincial leader, Mr Collen Sedibe, is being implicated in an incident at a hotel.

He allegedly had an unauthorised guest who demanded food on the provincial legislature’s account.

This is according to information from the assistant food service manager of the Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, Mr Neil Fakir, which was sent to the legislature. “We have experienced a problem this morning (March 14) during breakfast, whereby, a gentleman from room 1807 arrived posing as the owner of the room.

“Later, a lady arrived also stating that she was from the same room.

“This room was booked for one individual only. The gentleman then insisted on signing the additional breakfast to the room account and assured our staff members, Repentance and Charity, that the legislature would cover this extra expense.

“Please note that signatures upon check-in do not match those on the breakfast docket. Kindly follow up with the responsible people if this is the case and notify them of the occurrences mentioned above,” Fakir claimed.

A provincial legislature statement read, “Sedibe was on EFF political work and we booked for him only, as we normally do for all members of the legislature on official duty, but no extras are covered in this regard.”

Asked about the incident, Sedibe said, “Yes I am aware of the incident. It is true that we were booked in that hotel. The bookings were for myself and my colleague Hon Alfred S’khosana. Two of my assistants, (driver and bodyguard) who had also travelled with me, went for breakfast under my room number and that of Hon S’khosana, unaware that he had already sent someone to the breakfast under his room number.

“A lady from the restaurant called me to ask about the gentleman and I confirmed knowing them and I gave them a go ahead to eat and committed to pay the extras upon checking out which I did as promised. This matter is actually a non-starter and as far as we are concerned there is no issue here at all”.

He said the extra amount that he had to pay totalled to R250 which he said they paid when checking out.
