Chairperson of Mpumalanga’s Media Forum resigned

His decision comes after asking himself an inconvenient and extremely difficult question. "‘What am I doing to help the MMF soar to its full potential?’ The answer was a shameful ‘nothing, " he says in a media release sent today

MBOMBELA- Whilst the country celebrates Human Rights Day, a locally based seasoned journalist and chairperson of the Mpumalanga Media Forum (MMF) decided to step down from his position.

Mr Tshwarelo Mogakane says his decision comes after asking himself an inconvenient and extremely difficult question. “‘What am I doing to help the MMF soar to its full potential?’ The answer was a shameful ‘nothing, ” he says in a media release sent yesterday (March 21).

“In the brief time since its formation, I have not done anything tangible to bring about
vibrancy to this organisation, save to open a bank account with the help of the treasurer and
secretary. Our attempts to convene various meetings in the past have fallen flat, with only a
handful people attending at different intervals.

As a music man, I hold the belief that you cannot force a person to like a song. The song
either hits them or it doesn’t. In the same way, I have realised that I cannot force any
journalist or media practitioner to participate in the forum.
For this reason I have not done much for the forum and the forum has not done much for me because its existence remains in name while my position is merely a title I refuse to abuse. I am therefore ready to follow and eager to serve under new leadership.

With the following words, I bid you farewell, till we meet under new leadership.
Men are found of lying More to themselves than to others Hence, relationships are ever so fond of dying For none is stronger than children’s bond with their mothers,” he said in his letter.
