The new recruits were also applauded by the locals. One of the residents, Mr Jabulani Khathwane said,

“We know they cannot fight crime overnight, it’s going to take time, but if they show dedication, commitment and work as a team, I am sure they will create a crime-free zone.”
The area has been engulfed by by reports of a notorious group, known as the Panga Gang, which has been terrorising the community for a long time. Police have faced difficulties in apprehending them.

“We are forced to sleep with one eye open because we are afraid of this gang. We hope that since they have recruited more police, they are going to come with a new strategy to get rid of these boys because they don’t give us peace,” said another resident, Ms Thembani Tsabetse.
