New Commissioner for Mpumalanga

Lt Gen Mondli Zuma brings a vast experience in policing and should be given the chance to prove himself, says national police spokesperson Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi.

MBOMBELA- The now former provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Mark Dumisa Magadlela has been officially replaced by Lt Gen Mondli Zuma.

This was recently announced by the acting national police commissioner Lt General Khomotso Phahlane.

This comes after Magadlela attended the police-day celebrations at Elukwatini and the first-ever provincial laying of wreaths for officers who died in the line of duty.

Mpumalanga News learnt that there were mixed feelings about the unceremonious departure of Magadlela among members of the sector, labour unions and even political parties. The national police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said Magadlela was removed from his post because his experience and expertise were needed in the head office in Pretoria. “Magadlela and two others were needed to form part of the newly formed management intervention unit. This unit is to precisely deal with issues of governance in the police; they must inculcate a sense of responsibility, police stations must start dealing with crime, have operations and deal with how issues are investigated and closed.”

Mulaudzi added that Zuma brings vast experience in policing and should be given the chance to prove himself.
“We knew that Mpumalanga is one of the difficult areas with its politics and corruption.

“We chose Zuma to head the police of the province because he is one of the best candidates to stabilise the province.” Mulaudzi added that the allegations, labelled by the DA were dealt with through legal processes. “If people are not happy with the court’s findings, they must approach the justice system and ask the magistrates. As the police we have done thorough check-ups to verify that there are no pending cases against Zuma.
