SALGA is ready for local government elections

When asked about the date for the elections, Khumalo said the President of the country, Mr Jacob Zuma, is yet to make the announcement, but it should be from May and no further than August.

MBOMBELA – The South African Local Government Association in the province has announced that it is ready for the upcoming local government elections.

This was made known by the Deputy Chairperson, Mr Rhenias Khumalo.

“We look forward to the 2016 local government elections which will be taking place this year. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with stakeholders in order to serve our communities and citizens,” said Rhenias.

When asked about the date for the elections, Khumalo said the President of the country, Mr Jacob Zuma, is yet to make the announcement, but it should be from May and no further than August.

“The elections should be held within 90 days from the previous ones, and in this case, we are looking between May and August. In the meantime, different political parties have not yet pronounced their candidates, they are taking this time to polish everything and tie up loose end. We should see some serious action after the declaration of the official date,” he added.

The day was marked by discussions with regards to the financial year ahead and plans to train the incoming local government candidates.
