Cycle Tour to get underway next week

It’s all systems go for the inaugural Mpumalanga Cycle Tour, which gets underway on Monday, January 18, in Loskopdam.

The Mpumalanga Cycle Tour is the latest stage race in road cycling calendar and will see top cyclists from the country and beyond competing for top honours over six days and covering more than 700 kilometres, including 11 514 metres of climb.

Stage 1 – Loskopdam Forever Resort to Badplaas Forever Resort (197km), Stage 2 – Badplaas Forever Resorts to Mbombela (97km), Stage 3 – Mbombela Stadium to Glenwood (132km), Stage 4 – Forever Hotel in White River to Mount Sheba Forever Resort (109km), Stage 5 – Mount Sheba Forever Resorts to Blyde Canyon Forever Resorts (78km) and Stage 6 – Blyde Canyon Forever Resort – Forever Hotel in White River (133km).

According to the tour organizer, Hendrik Wagener, the tour will cause minimal traffic disruptions, which are as follows: The N11 will be closed on both directions between 08:00 and 11:00 on Monday, January 18.

On the same day, the mainroad in eManzana (Badplaas) will be closed between 09:00 and 12:00. On Tuesday, January 19 the mainroad in eManzana will be closed between 08:30 and 09:30. On Thursday, January 21 the R533 (mainroad to Pilgrim’s Rest) will be closed between 10:30 and 13:00. On Saturday, January 23 Tom Lawrence in White River will be closed between 12:00 and 15:00.

“The tour will also showcase the flora and fauna of the province,” said Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Ms Norah Mahlangu-Mabena.

The MEC Mahlangu-Mabena calls upon all the people of the province to rally behind the tour and exercise caution during traffic disruptions caused by the hosting of the event of this magnitude.
