Locals must beware of human traffickers

Locals In KaNyamazane fear for their lives since human trafficking is recently escalating in the area.

KANYAMAZANE – The festive season is considered the most exciting and busiest time of the year. However, locals are uncertain about their safety as human trafficking is currently escalating in this community.

Recently there was an incident in which an 11-year-old girl was allegedly lured by a man in a black suit, driving a big black car with tinted windows. According to the girl, the man offered her money and told her to come closer.

When she was close enough he tried to force her into the car. Luckily a woman nearby heard her screaming and rushed to assist her. Upon realising that someone had witnessed the incident, the man released the girl and fled.

“I thank God for protecting my child, if it was not for Him she would be another statistic now,” said the mother, Ms Sophie Mawile. She warned the community to ensure that their children were indoors by 18:00 since they had noticed unknown vehicles frequenting the Lekazi complex where her child was nearly taken.

Spokesperson for the KaNyamazane police, WO Andries Skwambane, said parents should not allow their kids to roam the streets in the evening. “They must not ask lifts from people they do not know.

If it happens that someone asks you directions, direct him while you keep your distance.” Skwambane also said not all drivers of luxury cars could be regarded as potential suspects.
