R33 million set aside to assist farmers

MEC Mr Andries Gamede said the money will be used to buy cattle fodder, licks and water.

MGOBODZI – The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (Dardlea) has offered R33 million as disaster relief to over 16 800 drought-stricken livestock farmers in the province.

The programme was rolled out at the Mgobodzi sports ground to hundreds of farmers from different parts of the province. MEC Mr Andries Gamede said the money will be used to buy cattle fodder, licks and water.
“If you are a livestock farmer, with either cattle, goats, sheep which need fodder, go to your nearest agricultural offices and register. You will be assisted on where to collect the fodder. Some of the money will also be used in buy water tanks for farmers in need of them,” said Gamede.
