It’s do or die for Karabo and Mmatema

The battle is between two giants as Karabo Mogane goes head to head with equally talented Mmatema Moremi in the Idols SA competition.

This week Rhema Varrie was voted out, which means that either Karabo or Mmatema will be your next idol.

The two contestants got to perform their new singles for the first time before an audience and elicited many cheers. Karabo’s single, ”Ding Dong”, is laid-back and chilled.

Karabo’s family has been working hard to ensure that people vote for him since the beginning of the voting stages. Spokesperson for the family, Lehlogonolo Mogane, has thanked all South Africans, particularly the province, for rallying behind Karabo.

“This is the toughest of all stages. He already tastes the title and we will ensure that he brings it home. It is the votes of the people that have sustained him this far, and this is the point where we intensify the votes.

It is a collective effort, and I really can’t thank the people enough. Let’s continue voting and own this year’s title,” said Lehlogonolo.

Mogane added that the local churches had also shown their support, for which they are thankful. ”I will not pinpoint one or two churches, but the support has been overwhelming so far.

Some have offered free Wi-Fi for us to continue voting, the prayers they have been showering us with don’t go unnoticed. The government and Mbombela Local Municipality have also been overwhelmingly supportive and offered services to the campaign.

It’s such acts that revive our faith in unity as a province and the country.”

The MEC for culture, sports and recreation, Norah Mahlangu-Mabena, has taken the campaign into her own hands and made it a point to catch Karabo live every possible weekend.

“I am busy campaigning for Karabo as we speak. The department and province are behind him and we are leaving no stone unturned. We know that we were in the same position last year with Bongi Silinda, unfortunately we didn’t take the number-one spot, something we are definitely doing this year,” said Mahlangu Mabena.

She acknowledged that the campaign was not as strong last year, but they have learnt and are doing twice as much this year. “There are things we didn’t get right last year, but we have advanced from that.

I seriously believe that Karabo Mogane will be this year’s idol. We have prepared something great for him in celebration of that. We have our own team that sits in the office and vote for Karabo, I can’t wait for the celebration.

We also want to show our young people that we care about them and we support their dreams all the way. This is just another example that we are a government that cares,” she added.

Acting premier and MEC for community safety, security and liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe, has also jumped on the wagon to wish Karabo all the best for the upcoming week.

“I am happy I took part in this campaign, last week I went to Ligwalagwala FM and Ikwekwezi FM with his family to urge the province and the whole country to rally behind him. I proudly wore the Team Karabo T-shirt even in last week’s legislature sitting, and yes, I do vote extensively.

This is just one of the many ways we show support for one of our own. We are planning a huge welcome-home celebration for our golden boy, but first, people must ensure that they vote for him. We can’t afford to see him as a runner-up just because we got lazy to cast our votes,” said Shongwe.

Karabo and Mmatema will embark on a tour this week; first stop is Cape Town, and then Durban.

Karabo’s ”Ding Dong” is available on iTunes for download, and to vote for him, SMS 02 to 37400 or dial *120*33033#.
