Local hip-hop artist says AKA used his beat

Gordio G-Cover claims that the beat used on AKA's diss track, Composure, was his brainchild.

TONGA – Local artist and producer, Gordon Nkosi, aka Gordio G-Cover, has come out guns blazing against internationally acclaimed rapper and hip-hop artist, AKA (Kienaan Forbes), for allegedly using his beat without his consent.

Gordio G-Cover claims that the beat used on AKA’s diss track, Composure, was his brainchild and that he was never acknowledged in the process.

According to him, it all started when he met a certain man who identified himself as John, who claimed to have relations with AKA and other renowned artists.

“I met this man a couple of months back and through our conversations, I was convinced that he was reputable.

“We exchanged contacts and I spoke to him about my passion for the entertainment industry.

One thing led to the other, and I gave him my CD to listen to the songs and that we would set up meetings thereafter.”

It was then that Gordio G-Cover saw his dreams of making it in the industry coming to fruition, at least that’s what he thought. “I was happy that I could finally work with respectable names.

“Unfortunately my phone died for a couple of weeks and I lost touch with the social-media world, but when I finally got back in the game, I had the shock of my life.

“I noticed that everyone was going on about Composure. I immediately listened to the song and was stunned to hear a beat exactly as mine.

“I contacted John on the spot, and he said we would meet and work something out, which is something I was okay with, because no producer was credited on the song.

“That means they were all well aware that the beats belonged to neither of them,” he added.

The story took a bad turn when John went missing in action and switched off his phone.

However, that is when the management team of renowned artist, Anatii, came forward to say that he had produced the beat.

“Everything was now happening so fast and at the same time. How can Anatii claim something that’s not his?

It’s really surprising. I don’t want to sue or claim money. I just want to be acknowledged as the producer of the beat.

That’s my work, I have the files and everything, and it should be known that I have created it.

I acknowledge that I might have made a huge blunder by not registering it, but that doesn’t change the truth,” said Gordio G-Cover.
AKA’s team has distanced themselves from the claims and say they don’t know and have never heard of Gordio G-Cover before.

“We don’t know what Gordon is talking about, however, that doesn’t mean we will let the matter slide.

“We will look into it; perhaps have a listen to his original link to the beat, and the one used on the song.

“However, it should be noted that AKA is currently out of the country, anything else can only happen when he’s back with the rest of the team,” said Pheko Kgengoe of AKA’s public relations team.

On the other hand, Anatii’s team has confirmed that it has taken legal action against AKA for using the beat without
his consent.

Allegro Dinkwanyane, Anatii’s public relations manager, said, “It is with a sense of disbelief and outrage that we have discovered that AKA has, without Anatii’s knowledge or consent, unlawfully made use of Anatii’s original beat and opening verse in his latest release.

This constitutes a clear infringement of the copyright which vests in that material.

Anatii intends to take such action to enforce all its available legal rights as are appropriate in the current circumstances.

Anatii is currently in LA and not available for comment or interviews regarding this matter”.
