Irrigation of gardens should stop as Crocodile River runs low

These restrictions are said to apply to all municipal abstractions from the Crocodile River such as Mbombela, White River, KaNyamazane, Malalane and Komatipoort.

MBOMBELA- The Mbombela local municipality inform all water users that abstraction restrictions are being implemented as the Crocodile River has stopped flowing further downstream.

These restrictions are said to apply to all municipal abstractions from the Crocodile River such as Mbombela, White River, KaNyamazane, Malalane and Komatipoort.
“We appeal to users to stop the irrigation of gardens within their areas. This includes private home owners from watering their gardens. As municipalities in these catchment areas ourselves, we will ensure that we stop the watering of municipal open grounds and gardens,” says Joseph Ngala the municipal spokesperson.
“This will be until further notice,” he continued.
Ngala further urged members of the public to spread this message all across as the municipality takes this situation as critical. “Any other water use reduction techniques are also encouraged. The reason for these restrictions is to enable the flow in the Crocodile River to reach the Mozambican border as it has currently stopped flowing. This is required to meet the domestic needs downstream, our international obligations and the environmental sustainability of the Crocodile River,”he said. .
