Gospel awards going big

After a resounding display during the inaugural launch, the second instalment of the Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards is set to deliver fireworks.

Last year, the show was proudly sponsored by former ANC treasurer, Dr Mathews Phosa, Imbali Events, Mpumalanga News and many more.

This event, which was the first of its kind in the province, will once again look at honouring local talent in the gospel music industry.

Last year’s inaugural masterpiece saw legendary players in this music genre, the likes of Rebecca Malope, Sipho Makhabane and many more honoured.

“We have learnt so many things from our initial show and this year we want to improve in those areas where we didn’t get it right.

Nominations for these awards have already opened and artists are taking advantage of the platform. According to Sandile, SMS lines will open soon for gospel music lovers to vote for their favourite artists.

“We have decided to involve the general public to choose their own favourite musicians and best albums through our voting system. We would like to encourage our local people to support their favourite musicians by voting for them.”

He said in order to produce a successful show, more funds were needed and therefore appealed to local business people to help by means of donations.

“It is not easy to pull off a show of this magnitude without financial backing. We really want to build a reputable brand that every citizen in the province would want to identify themselves with.

So, we desperately require sponsorship from government institutions and even from our local businesses,” he appealed.
