Ig Olivier says good-bye to Emnotweni

When Olivier reflects on his journey, he attributes his success to the many mentors who encouraged him over the 18 years.

MBOMBELA – General Manager for Emnotweni, Ig Olivier, is hanging up his hat after 18 years in the casino industry and is now looking forward to new and exciting challenges.

When Olivier reflects on his journey, he attributes his success to the many mentors who encouraged him over the 18 years, as well as his strong faith and close knit family, who inspired him immensely.

The Emnotweni team’s individual challenges and successes which he witnessed with pride proved also to be a daily inspiration.

“There are so many lessons that you learn over the years, but the greatest is to stay humble.

Another lesson is that you have to listen attentively to people to fully understand what they are saying”, says Olivier.

“The gaming industry is one of the most vibrant and exciting places to be in.

The industry will give you what you want from it, if
you work hard,” he adds.

Olivier’s father taught him that if you want something; stick your arms out of your sleeves and work for it.

In his father’s words, ‘Nothing is for free except this advice’.

“The casino industry does have its lighter moments and the good times that we shared as a team was really special.”

Olivier adds that the best part of the job was the diversity of people that he had the pleasure of working with during what feels
like a lifetime in the casino industry.

“I am not retiring, merely changing jobs. About 11 years ago my wife and I started developing a Macadamia Nut farm.

She has been managing the farm until now but the challenges and work have increased to such an extent that I need to get my hands dirty to ensure a quality harvest.”

When asked what the future holds, Olivier says he would also like to rekindle one of his passions for travelling to the lesser known places in the world.

“If all goes well, we will visit Finland next year in an attempt to witness the Northern Lights phenomenon.

After that there’s Alaska; Greenland and many other places to discover.

After 18 years in the casino industry, it is certain that Olivier leaves a legacy behind with big shoes to fill, and will be missed as he pursues a new chapter in his life.
