DA welcomes arrest of poaches

This arrest took place just a few weeks after local communities embarked on peaceful demonstrations against rhino poaching.

MBOMBELA – The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the province has welcome the arrest of four men in connection with hijacking and with one of the suspects linked to rhino poaching.


Information at Mpumalanga News online, suggested that over the weekend a motorist was stopped by bogus Metro police who threatened him with a firearm and threw him into the boot of his car.


A search for the hijacked car led to the arrest of the men and two rhino horns were discovered in the car.


This arrest took place just a few weeks after local communities embarked on peaceful demonstrations against rhino poaching. 


The DA’s spokesperson in community liaison, safety and security, Mr Bosman Grobler said,

“We welcome the arrest, it is imperative that the provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Dumisani Magadlela together with the MEC for this department, Mr Vusi Shongwe must engage the minister of police Mr Nathi Nhleko on the introduction and implementation of specialised units into the SAPS like introduction of the rural safety units and anti-gang and
drug units.”


He added that the country would be far safer with a competent, highly equipped police officers that can turn the tide against crime.
