Suspect faces charges of perjury

It is alleged that he falsely opened a case of armed robbery and alleged that he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash at gunpoint by three unknown men

WHITE RIVER- A 31-year-old suspect, Mr Cecil Davis Mokoena recently  appeared before the White River Magistrate’s Court on a charge of perjury.

It is alleged that he  falsely opened a case of armed robbery and alleged that he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash at gunpoint by three unknown men. However police’s preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect made a false claim after he failed to answer questions relating to the alleged robbery..
“He later admitted that there was no robbery and that he had stolen the money and hid it in a plastic bag at the ‘scene of crime’. He then led the police officers to the scene and the men in blue recovered the money which they found stashed in a plastic bag,” reads  the charge sheet.

Mokoena was remanded in custody and will appear again in court on November 11
