Christians declare Holy war on crime

"I'm deeply angered by the violation we face as a community and as the Christian community."

MASOYI – It’s about time Christians stand up and pray for God’s serious intervention in the criminal activities that continue to haunt local churches.

This was vehemently emphasised by a pastor of Mganduzweni after he narrowly escaped death when he had to wrestle with two attackers while walking home from an all-night prayer last week.

The man of the cloth, who pleaded with Mpumalanga News not to disclose his identity as he feared for his life, said it was around 04:00 when he and two women of the church were approached by the men.

“They flashed knives at me saying they were going to rape the women whom they grabbed and dragged into the bush.

I then ran after them and when they saw that I was not backing off, they let the females go and turned their attention to me,” stated the pastor.

He said they started punching him and “by God’s grace” he managed to overpower them after which they fled, leaving him unharmed.

“I am still puzzled by the strength and courage I had to conquer those vicious men, but I’m deeply angered by the violation we face as a community and as the Christian community,” he exclaimed.

He further related another incident where members of one of the local churches, Peak of The Saints, had been robbed of money, cellphones and other valuables during a night prayer.

One of the members confirmed the incident, stating that it was around midnight a week ago when four armed men barged into the holy house and demanded the congregation to lie down while they raided the church.

She added that it was a blessing that no one had been hurt during the raid.

“It’s about time we started praying seriously for God to deal with these culprits who target the congregants.

This is absolute disrespect and we are tired of it. We declare fire from Heaven to come and consume anyone who tries to touch the anointed of God in a nasty way.

If it means we need to declare war, we will and in the end we will emerge victorious because greater is He who is for us than those of the world,” concluded the pastor.

Local police have confirmed the incidents and say they are bothered by these acts and are busy deliberating on ways to protect Christians during their meetings.

“Even today we are going to talk about it in our meeting because we cannot just sit and do nothing.

We will have to work with the local churches and see how we can solve this problem,” said Const Naniki Masoyi.
