Mom grateful for her new home

Life will never be the same again for a 58-year-old woman of Ireagh Village who used to share a one-room house with her six children, as she is one of the 363 RDP beneficiaries of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.

BUSHBUCKRIDGE-The new construction of Ms Rita Shabangu’s home started earlier this month and was expected to be completed within the next few weeks.

Shabangu pointed out that this would bring massive relief to her poor family because they could not build themselves a proper home. “I am grateful that at last the construction has began after years of applying, I am happy,” she said.

“We are grateful to our government for living up to its promise to help us. It has been a scary experience to share a oneroom house with six children, there was no privacy at all,” she said excitedly.

Tabling the budget speech for the current financial year, MEC for human settlements, Ms Violet Siwela stated that the establishment of
integrated sustainable human settlements did not by any chance undermine the delivery of housing opportunities to communities
through other programmes.

This was part of department’s project called “People Housing Process”
(PHP) which was mandated to make tremendous successes in providing adequate housing for the needy.

“The delivery of PHP is part of the department’s plan to empower and develop communities in rural areas. It has planned to deliver 363
units in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality and 2 725 in the province during this financial year,” said Siwela.
