Celebrating womanhood in style

We've noticed with concern that some women need tips on how to rock the red carpet with style.

MBOMBELA – The whole month of August has been traditionally devoted to women and the line-up of events aimed at celebrating their virtuousness is amazing.

Since the beginning of the month, this publication has been privileged to be part of a number of occasions where gorgeous females made an effort to look dazzling as they have gathered in celebration of their womanhood.

However, we observed that some did not seem to honour the invitations to these high-status affairs, simply by judging from the way they dress.

For some it appears as if they have just woken up on the day of the event and grabbed whatever piece of clothing was available in their wardrobes.

Mpumalanga News adores women of the communities it serves and this journalist spoke to local self-image consultant and stylist, Ms Nozipho Sifundza AKA Zee, for a few free tips on stealing the spotlight at these events.

The first important thing Zee indicated was that it is of high importance to respect organisers of any event by sticking to the theme of the event.

She also highlighted that denim jeans were a big no for any occasion, even if the invitation said the dress code was smart casual.

“Smart casual doesn’t have to be denim jeans. You can rock your jumpsuit or slack pants with a nice jacket and still be smart and casual,” she said.

Another tip she promised always worked wonders, even for her, was that if a lady didn’t know what to wear, black always did wonders.

To ladies who feel they can’t afford those fancy expensive dresses from the boutiques, Zee opined that looking great does not really depend on the price tag of an item.

“The trick is in knowing your body and dress for it’s type. One can make a beautiful outfit from the affordable shops and still look gorgeous. It’s all about knowing your body,” advised Zee.

The self-image consultant also encouraged ladies to consult and get advise if they feel stuck and do not know how to dress for these events.

“What I’ve noticed is that people from Mbombela feel it’s strange to talk to an expert about clothes and self-image but I have seen some changing from being sloppy to exquisite dressers with a bit of advise from stylists,” she added.

With make-up her opinion is that less is always best and a bright coloured lipstick always adds life to any person, dark or light-skinned.

And for those who always feel betrayed by high heels, kitten heels and wedges are always safe and comfortable.

Now ladies, go out there and look dazzling for all the upcoming events and celebrate yourself in a stylish way.
