A selfless act saves artist’s life

For some Christians, the words "My life is a testimony", are nothing more than a song, but for internationally renowned artist, Sipho Makhabane, they carry an even greater meaning.

MBOMBELA – Affectionately known as Big Fish, he says his experience with the medical sector when he had an accident in December last year, was not a pleasant one. A day which was supposed to be normal, turned out to be a most forgettable one in his book.

“The last memory I have on that day doesn’t go beyond Alzu, the next thing I remember from that, is waking up in hospital. But, upon my enquiry, I found that I had been involved in a terrible accident, which could easily have resulted in my death.

I also learnt that while I had been in a coma in Middelburg Hospital, the doctors refused to help me, unless an amount of R135 000 was paid into the hospital’s account,” he said.

Makhabane says he has seen God working miraculously through his close friend, Mr Johan Sibiya.

“When God wants to bless you, sometimes He uses the people closest to you. I really thank God for Kokwana, as we call him. Sibiya was in Swaziland when he heard the news he immediately drove to Middelburg and paid the amount required, right away.

“When one is in a coma, the chances of survival are slim. Sibiya took a huge gamble with his money and paid the hospital so that I could be treated. That to me, is greater than anything else,” he added.
Big Fish went on to express his gratitude to the saints who had prayed for him through his ordeal.

“Saints from all over the SADC region were praying for me, I felt the prayers bringing me back to life, it’s true, that whatever is bound on earth, will also be bound in heaven. The devil is indeed a liar.”

Big Fish is hosting one of the biggest gospel music concerts in the city in September, as his way of saying thank you to the saints, and preaching the oneness message.

“When I got out of the hospital, I was inundated by news of how our African brothers and sisters had turned against one another, it really pained me. I was too weak to go back to work then, but I’m stronger now, and it’s time to celebrate life, in unity as the SADC region,” he said.
