Barberton is calm and stable

" No student who will be kicked out from the college because he/she did not pay fees, the law does not allow that"

BARBERTON – Even though the situation is stable at the Ehlanzeni TVET College after angry students had embarked on a strike last week, student representatives vowed that they would stick to their guns.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News the chairperson of the student council, Mr Bonginkosi Mkhabela, said they were not going to fold their arms and allow students to pay R1 700 if they want to register and go in classes.

“We are not going to fold our arms and let students pay the R 1 700 which management insists upon. We want to engage with management regarding this matter as we are not happy with the outcome, even though they said those students who couldn’t afford to pay this amount must bring R200 to register and parents have to sign an agreement to pay the full amount in instalments until August,” explained Mkhabela.

He added that if they forced students to pay R 1 700 they would disadvantage those from poor backgrounds who struggled to pay R200.
Meanwhile the spokesperson for Ehlanzeni TVET colleges, Mr Mxolisi Ndzimande, said,

“Let me first indicate that it’s good that the management spoke to the students as it shows that we are moving in a positive or good direction.

“There is a commitment form that students sign in which they can indicate when they are going to pay the rest of the money.
No student who will be kicked out from the college because he/she did not pay fees, the law does not allow that.

They must pay as they promised because if they don’t it’s going to be a problem when they have to get their results at the end of the year,” concluded Ndzimande
