Undisclosed amount of cash stolen from cash in transit vehicles

The attackers ordered the security guards to open the door , forced them to lie down on the ground, disarmed them and took an undisclosed amount of money.They proceeded to explode the cash vehicle and then fled the scene.

PIENAAR- Calamity struck yesterday when two cash in transit vehicles were robbed at different intervals between the Airport – Plaston road and Plaston -Pienaar road stealing an undisclosed amount of money .

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, spokesperson for the provincial police the first incident happened around 14:30 near the traffic circle on the Airport Road whereby a Protea Coin vehicle from White River was shot at and pushed off the road by two BMW’s until it came to a standstill. “The occupants of the BMW’s then ordered the coin driver and his two assistants to open the back of their van and they took an undisclosed amount of cash, the victim’s cellphones and firearms and fled the scene on their runaway car. The registration number is not known,” he said.

The second incident happened around 18:00 on the same road between Casambo Guesthouse and the now called Gwede Mantashe village. According to police information the G4S vehicle from Nelspruit which was coming from the direction of Emoyeni Mall towards Nelspruit where the vehicle was also shot at until it came to a standstill by unknown suspects driving a Ford Ranger. The assailants then ordered the security guard to open the door , forced them to lie down ground, disarmed them and took and undisclosed amount of money. The attackers of the second heist proceeded to explode the cash vehicle and then fled the scene.

No arrests had been made from both incidents. “We had opened cases of Robbery Cash in Transit from both cases. Police are looking for the suspects and anyone with information can contact the White River on 013-7500888 or 082 449 0332 or the Nelspruit police on 013-7591001/1305/1008.

Mohlala said police are vigilant to ensure that incident of this nature never happen again. “We also request these companies to strengthen their security companies,”.

Mpumalanga News journalist, Bongani Fakude who passed by the scene yesterday says the G4S vehicle was marked with bullets all-round and bullets lying on the road caused a jam of traffic, such that motorists were delayed for nearly two hours with police on the scene before the road could be cleared. Workers from the nearby Orange Farm reported to have heard gun shots sounding like the spinning of vehicle for nearly 30 minutes only to learn that the G4S was hijacked.
