Best female farmers to be honoured

The competition was incepted by the national Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in 1999 to encourage and empower hard working women for their good work in fighting against poverty, hunger and joblessness through ensuring food security.

MBOMBELA- The Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental
Affairs will host the 2015 provincial Female Entrepreneur Award, aimed at recognizing the role played by women in Agriculture.

The award is scheduled to be held in on Thursday evening at the Graceland Casino, Secunda, in the Goven Mbeki Local Municipality.

“The competition was incepted by the national Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in 1999 to encourage and empower hard working women for their good work in fighting against poverty, hunger and joblessness through ensuring food security,” explained Ms Zanele Shabangu spokesperson for the department.

This year’s DAFF Female Entrepreneur Awards will be held under the theme: “Uniting to empower women to achieve economic freedom through Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries”.
The provincial awards precede the National DAFF Female Entrepreneur Awards, which will also take place during Women’s Month.

Winners will be awarded in the following Categories:
Best Female Worker
Best Subsistence farmer
Top Entrepreneur: Small Holder
Top Entrepreneur: Processing
Top Entrepreneur: Commercial
Top Entrepreneur: Export Markets, and
MEC’s Special Awards for Youth and People with Disabilities
