CALCUTTA – A 32-year-old man  has been arretsed in connection with possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and explosives.

Police found two AK 47 and an R5 rifles with 18 live rounds of ammunition when searching his room. Other items seized from him includes two of R5empty magazines, two of  AK47 and other explosives plus cables, hand gloves, sellotapes, balaclaves, sellotapes and other items.

“We believe that the arrest of the suspect might share some light in the investigation of several incidents of crime around the Bushbuckridge Cluster. There are several criminal acts that took place around the cluster such as a cash-in-transit robbery that took place early this year in Mariti,” said the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General (Adv) Mark Magadlela.

The police are currently pursuing leads to determine the scope of the suspect’s involvement in other criminal activities.

He had already appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court.
