New success desks for learners

On Monday, Mhaule with her team closely monitored the delivery of 300 tables to the Mandlesive High School, in Daantjie.

PIENAAR- In addressing the lack of tables and chairs in public schools, the Department of Education led by MEC Reginah Mhaule embarked on a province-wide drive to ensure that these important commodities are delivered to schools.

Mhaule urged learners to work extra hard in order for them to reach their goals. She said if they did well the department would give them bursaries.

“We decided to give them desks because we know that the community will not borrow them and learners will not be able to take them home. During exams time everyone will be seated with no learners complaining about not having a chair or a table. We hope that they will be motivated form now on,” said Mhaule.

During the delivery of the tables at this school, Vodacom and Imbumba foundation took part by honouring the struggle hero, Nelson Mandela. Vodacom donated food parcels to each learner while the Imbumba Foundation donated sanitary towels.

Ms Gabsile Bhiya of Caring for Girls said, “We are trying to help girls since during menstruation some tend to absent themselves as they arescared that they might be embarrassed in view of the fact that they cannot afford to buy sanitary towels.”

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the education department, Vodacom and Imbumba foundation. As girls we will not bunk schools just because we have our periods,” said Nokwanda Mongane, a learner at the school.

She further said the new desks would be extra motivation for learners to work harder in order to make the MEC proud.
