NKOMAZI – Rape has lately increased in Nkomazi East. It has become difficult to ignore the subject. The recent incident occurred in Block A where two women, both 21, were raped by two men during a break-in.

“Rape has really become a problem around this area. We are so besieged with such cases, it made us realise that we have to go beyond the call of duty of the SAPS, in order for us to overcome this endemic,” said Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, spokesperson for Tonga SAPS.

The station has set up programmes and campaigns to warn communities and raise awareness. “We request the communities to cooperate.

We have upcoming programmes and door-to-door campaigns put aside. We cannot wait any longer, this has to be addressed now,” added Nyambi. The station is also calling on communities to come out and attend the mass meeting organised for them as stakeholders, to also find other ways of addressing this issue.

“We have a meeting on Tuesday, to which we invite all the stakeholders to come through. We call it Indlovu Yetfu, because this matter affects us all.

We cannot expect the communities to deal with it on their own, and vice versa. We need to work together in order for us to win. The meeting will start at 10:00, and we are hoping for a great attendance.”
