Department prays for relief

Fatalities on the road continue to plague Mpumalanga. The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) has resorted to seeking divine intervention to curb the situation.

Joined by internationally acclaimed gospel group, Joyous Celebration, the department held a brief prayer service on the N12,
where a mass accident involving over 60 cars occurred recently.

According to the DCSSL, the road has been beleaguered by accidents since the beginning of the year. Over 60 crashes have occurred in six months. “This road has seen a number of accidents since the beginning of the year,

respectively,” said Mr Joseph Mabuza, spokesperson for the department. Wreaths were then laid on the road after the prayer.
“Road fatalities are very sentimental to us as a group. We have also lost one of our own in an accident, late last year.

It is evil spirits that need to be condemned, we can’t keep
tolerating deaths on the roads, we don’t need them. Today we are breaking that spirit, our God is bigger than all of this, and he has done it for us,” said Jabu Hlongwane, cofounder of Joyous Celebration.

The day was also marked by visits to different taxi ranks in the area, where drivers received gifts such as air fresheners and
breathalysers from the department.
