Protest causes massive traffic jam on road

Angry residents barricaded the only public road to Pienaar from Likazi after a child was run over by an unknown vehicle on Friday.

KANYAMAZANE – A community protest to demand speed humps was the reason for the massive traffic jam. Angry residents barricaded the only public road to Pienaar from Likazi after a child was run over by an unknown vehicle on Friday.

After the hit-and-run at Extension 6, the child was hospitalised and is currently in coma in a Pretoria hospital.
According to his family he was was critically injured. The police had confirmed the incident and said they would make an arrest soon.

During the protest action, the police assisted in clearing the scene and opening the road for traffic flow to resume. The community said learners were always victims as they used the same one to schools.

“This section of the road is always busy as it separates two locations. Buses, trucks and taxis mostly use this road and this put the safety of our children at risk,” said
Mr Themba Zulu, one of the residents.

Mpumalanga News tried several times to contact the KaNyamazane Police Station spokesperson for more information on the matter, but he was not available at the time of going to print.
