Four watch-out situations during winter

Every year during winter season, there are thousands of household fires, in this country resulting in hundreds of serious injuries and death. Most of these damages can be easily preventable with this few tips.

1.COOK WITH CAUTION-Cooking brings family and friends together.

If you are sleepy or under the influence of alcohol do not use stove, avoid cooking. Be alert!
Stay in the kitchen when you are grilling, boiling or fraying. Be alert!
If baking or roasting food, check regularly and use a timer to remind you are cooking. Be alert!
Keep anything away that can catch fire from the stove. Be alert!

2. ELECTRICAL TIPS-Electricity makes our lives easier, however, we need to be cautious and keep safety.

Have all electric work in the house done by qualified electrician. Be alert.
Check electrical cords to make sure they are not running across doorways or under carpets. Be alert!
Only plug one heat-producing appliance into a receptacle. Be alert!

3. CANDLE WITH CARE-Candle may be pretty to look at but they are a cause of home fires.

Blow out all candles when you leave the room or going to bed. Be alert!
Avoid using candles in bedrooms where people may fall asleep. Be alert!
Keep candles away from anything that can ignite fuel or burn. Be alert!

4. HEATING SAFETY-Heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fires to death.

Keep anything that can burn away from heating equipment. Be alert!
Never use your oven to heat your home. Be alert!
Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed. Be alert!
Make sure the fireplace has a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into room. Be alert!
