Bank employee arrested for fraud

A 28-year-old female suspect, who is also said to be an employee in one of the banks at Kamaqhekeza, has appeared at the Nkomazi magistrate court on a charge of fraud.

NAAS – A 28-year-old female suspect, who is also said to be an employee in one of the banks at Kamaqhekeza, has appeared at the Nkomazi magistrate court on a charge of fraud.

This comes after a 64-year-old man reported a case of fraud at Tonga Police station over the weekend. According to the police, the victim has alleged that he went to the bank to make a notice on his investment and he was told that a notice was made on the April 29.

“According to the victim, an undisclosed amount of cash is said to have been transferred to a certain account in another bank. He then went to report the matter to the police and a case of fraud was opened. The investigation have so far led to the arrest of the suspect,” said Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, of Tonga SAPS.

The suspect has appeared at the Nkomazi Magistrate Court and she was released on R5000 bail, she is set to appear again on July 2.

“Our Station Commander, Brigadier Velisiwe Mdaka, appeals to the community to always check their bank accounts as we are receiving many cases of fraud lately. She has also thanked the bank manager who worked with the SAPS in making the investigation successful,” he concluded.
