Kriel- The police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrator who apparently kidnapped and left a month-old-baby boy next to a road in Thubelihle near Kriel.

The incident happened on June 7, after the baby’s mother left him in the care of her grandmother who kept an eye on him while she (grandmother) was busy with other chores. “To the granny’s surprise, the baby was no where to be found when she went to check on him ,” explained Brig Selvy Mohlala.

“The matter was then reported to the police and the search for the baby was conducted, intensified by the frantic neighbours and the community at large but to no avail,”he said.

According to Mohlala the police only received an anonymous call from someone using the main road on the outskirts of Thubelihle who apparently saw a baby lying next to the road at around 10:00 on the following day.

“The family was called to the scene and identify the baby as theirs, he was well dressed and received a clean bill of health from the doctor. At this state the police are investigating the case to determine the motive for the kidnapping,” he said.
