He said: “I was driving along town and after a short distance, I started smelling something foul like fuel as the care started flashing. I stopped the vehicle to inspect, but before I could do that, as I reached the police station, the vehicle was enveloped by a huge flame of fire from the engine.”
In that instance, still in a daze, forgetting to unfasten his seat-belt, he attempted to alight from the car, but eventually unfastened it and watched as his vehicle was reduced to ashes.
An eyewitness, Mr Thapelo Mgwenya said he tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the flames were too much. He said the Mbombela Fire and Rescue team was called on the scene to extinguish the car, with support from Police, Net-care 911 and Traffic department to stop moving cars to for safety.Fortunately, no one was injured.
