Minor allegedly beaten by community

A teenage boy was allegedly assaulted by members of the community after being accused of house breaking and other criminal activities in the area.

DAANTJIE – A 17-year-old minor accused of several criminal activities in the area was severely beaten by the community during the past weekend.

According to locals, the boy has been bothering the community ever since winter season started. They alleged that he is assisted by his uncle to commit crime as he supposedly lends him his gun. It is alleged that the boy was caught snatching cellphones and hand bags of people who commute for work at dawn.

“We feel unsafe when going to work, we must go in groups so that we can protect each other” said Ms Thobeka Moya, a resident.The was taken to a centre where the community surrounded him and started beating him with tree branches, stones and bricks. Our source said police officers came by to calm the situation and his uncle was arrested.

This incident happened a week after three boys were arrested in the same area for Nyaope drug possession that weighed 50kg.It was also mentioned that the boys were agents of a certain woman who uses them to sell the drugs on her behalf.This newspaper is still waiting for response from the spokesperson of Pienaar police station.
