Kids get free dental care

MBOMBELA- Benefits of having a brighter smile with white healthy teeth
enhances one’s self-esteem, provides greater confidence, and also shows how an individual takes pride in his/her appearance.

In line with this the 3M ESPE Division in conjunction with Smile of Joy, a non-governmental
organisation, provided more than 120 needy learners of uBuhle Primary School in Bronkhorstspruit, Mpumalanga with free oral-hygiene education and treatment.

The team of volunteers spent the day at school teaching and treating learners, most of whom were orphaned and vulnerable children.

Smile for Joy’s founder Amori Booysen expressed her gratitude to the management of the 3M ESPE Division for providing them with necessary products to actively treat disadvantaged learners with dental problems.

“Due to limited financial resources we needed a partnership with a private-sector oral healthcare provider to adopt our service and assist us in the battle against oral infections in children and 3M ESPE Division has been incredible with its support,” explained
Booysen.

“Volunteers treat and educate the children to ensure a healthy foundation.” She added that a
minor thing such as the incorrect storage of toothbrushes which may cause cross contamination
of organisms, was taught to the children so that they were not infecting one another with
additional organisms.

3M’s corporate social-investment offering supports Smile of Joy, enabling the organisation to treat HIV-infected and/or -affected orphaned and vulnerable children in South Africa.
