Bikers ride to help those in great need

Since the beginning of winter, members have been collecting blankets which are donated to various charity organisations and orphanages around the province.

KABOKWENI – As part of building hype towards its great launch, the Sun Riders Motorcycle Club is on a drive to lend a helping hand to the needy and the vulnerable.

Since the beginning of winter, members have been collecting blankets which are donated to various charity organisations and orphanages around the province.

According to Trompies Matsane, spokesman for the Sun Riders, one of the biggest motorcycle clubs in the country, these blankets, some which are donated by local businesses and citizens, will also be handed over to more charity organisations and home-based care centres during their mass bike festival in Mbombela on May 29 and 30.

“So far we have done charity runs in parts of the province where we donated food parcels, clothing and blankets to centres that cater for orphans and to child-headed households.

Just last week we went to KaBokweni-based Moses Sihlangu Health Care Centre with the intention to donate blankets.

We also discovered that their electricity was disconnected because of outstanding money, so our members saw it fit to also donate funds for it to be reinstalled.

“When we left, there were only tears of joy from the children and the centre managers,” said Trompies.

He also invited potential donors who may be interested in giving blankets to contact him on 072-098-4432.

On Friday May 29, the Sun Riders will host a pre-party at Nelspruit Shisanyama (the old Coyotes), where several DJs will perform.

These include DJs Zoe, Klenkie, Chrizozo, Sfiso, Zinhle and many more.
On Saturday May 30, activities will commence at 10:00 at the Mbombela Stadium with a mass ride to a chosen charity organisation.

“Revellers will be treated to spectacular stunts by bikers. There will also be competitions for them in which they stand a chance to win bikes,” he said.
