EFF marches on municipal offices

MBOMBELA – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) painted the town red on Friday during their march to the Mbombela Local Municipality offices to submit their memorandum of grievances.

Led by provincial leader, Mr Collen Sedibe, the EFF read their demands in the presence of Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, who was there to receive it.

“The municipality must provide us with a list of general workers appointed during April 2015, records of all interviews and adverts, and answers to why the people who worked for five months as contractors were not prioritised,” said Sedibe.

The political party vowed to make the city ungovernable, should their grievances not be attended to within 30 days.

The EFF also spoke strongly against the Umjindi and Mbombela merger, as well as what they call the harassment of street vendors in Mbombela.

“We are saying no to the Mbombela and Umjindi amalgamation, because the municipality is failing on its own, how much more when it’s combined with Umjindi? We also call for an immediate stop to the removal of street vendors.

Give them the opportunity to apply for permits to freely practice their business,” added Sedibe.

The EFF will hold their farm workers’, land claimants’, and unemployment rally on May 29 at Masoyi Stadium in Hazyview, where the national leader, Mr Julius Malema will be the keynote speaker.
