Security guard attacked on duty

The guard managed to untie himself and went to the nearby traffic department to seek for help and on his way back the suspects noticed him, fled the scene and left the computers behind.

MIDDELBURG – A security officer stationed at the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offices in Middelburg was recently overpowered by three men who tried to steal computers from the department.

According to Brig Selvy Mohlala spokesperson for the police the incident happened on April 13 at about 03:00, while the security guard was conducting routine patrols around the premises.

“When he went back to the guard room, he found the three men armed with crowbars waiting for him, they overpowered him and tied his hands and feet. Then proceeded to the building where they forced open the doors, gained entry and stole computers,” explained Mohlala.

He added that guard managed to untie himself and went to the nearby traffic department to seek for help and on his way back the suspects noticed him, fled the scene and left the computers behind.

No arrests had been made so far and police urge anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the three men responsible for a business robbery to contact Detective W/O Tobias Mogadima 079 878 7941.
