MEC Shongwe’s child dies in a car accident

Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe’s child was killed after she was knocked down by a car in Ermelo yesterday.

According to the department, the eight-year-old girl, was trying to cross over Pet Street near her home at approximately 16:30 on April 15, when the car hit her. She was certified dead on the scene and police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

“As road safety ambassador in the province, MEC Shongwe is very disturbed about the incident. He has been preaching the road safety gospel since he joined the department in 2011, not imagining that such disaster would directly affect him,” said Spokesperson for the department, Mr. Joseph Mabuza.

On behalf of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Head Of Department, Mr. William Mthombothi, sends condolences to the Shongwe family on the loss of their child.
