PIENAAR – A 32-year-old drunk driver failed to control his vehicle on Sunday and drove over a 48-year-old man and his nine-year-old child.
According to the local police spokesperson, Lt Jabu Ndubane, the incident happened around 17:00 at the main road in Lihawu.
“It seems like he lost control of the vehicle and drove straight into the two who were walking at the side of the road. The man was killed on the spot and the child sustained minor injuries,” she explained.
Police immediately responded to the scene and the driver was arrested at the scene. According to sources, he was even unable to stand properly.
The driver briefly made his court appearance at Kanyamazane Magistrate Court on charges of culpable homicide plus drunken driving.
